UAE & India Forge $100bn Trade Target & Multi-Sector Investment Deals!
Powering Growth with $100bn Trade Target & Deepening Investment Ties (UAE & India Forge)
In a significant stride towards enhancing bilateral ties, the Ministry of Investment of the UAE recently inked three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with India. These agreements, focusing on renewable energy, food processing, and healthcare, underscore the UAE’s commitment to supporting India’s burgeoning economy. The developments aim to deepen economic engagement, aligning with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Cepa) that became effective in May 2022.
Renewable Energy Cooperation:
The MoU on renewable energy, signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi and D. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, outlines plans for up to 60 gigawatts of renewable energy projects in India. This collaboration aligns with India’s ambitious goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and sourcing 50% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030. The UAE-India partnership seeks to contribute over $10 trillion in investments by 2070 to support India’s transition to a low-carbon path.
The focus is on fostering effective collaboration through public and private relationships, with proposed incentives to support relevant initiatives and facilitate knowledge exchange.

Food Park Development:
Under the MoU on food park development, signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi and Pashupati Kumar Paras, the collaboration aims to develop food park projects, leveraging cutting-edge agritech, clean tech, and renewable energy solutions. This partnership aligns with India’s “sunrise sector” in food processing, supported by the Mega Food Park Scheme launched in 2008. With financial support for establishing food parks, this initiative minimizes waste, conserves water, and maximizes crop yields.
The agreement emphasizes robust collaboration, introducing incentives to bolster initiatives and encouraging the exchange of knowledge between public and private organizations.
India’s food processing sector, one of the world’s largest, is expected to reach $535 billion by 2025/2026, playing a vital role in the country’s overall economic growth.
Innovative Healthcare Projects:
The MoU on innovative healthcare projects, signed by Alsuwaidi and Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasizes precision health based on genetic, genomic, or biological composition. The development of a genomic center of excellence is under consideration, reflecting India’s commitment to affordable, accessible, and increasingly innovative healthcare. The healthcare sector, estimated at $372 billion, continues to grow due to factors like advanced technology and increased public health expenditure.
Broader UAE-India Relations:
In a broader context, the UAE and India are working towards a trade relationship expected to reach $100 billion by 2027. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met, highlighting the historic ties and discussing ways to advance relations in various sectors.
The UAE, as the seventh-largest investor in India with an estimated $18 billion investment in 2023, is a key player in India’s economic landscape. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached $84.5 billion between April 2022 and March 2023, with expectations of reaching $100 billion by 2027.
The multidimensional economic engagement between the UAE and India, underpinned by the Cepa, signifies a robust partnership, and the recently signed MoUs further solidify their commitment to mutual progress and prosperity.
